The NHVDL assists the NH Commissioner of Agriculture and State Veterinarian in their efforts to monitor and control important animal diseases. We contribute to the academic, research and outreach missions of the University of New Hampshire College of Life Sciences and Agriculture
Veterinarians from around NH and the New England region use our histopathology, microbiology, serology and necropsy services for the diagnosis of animal diseases from pets, farm animals, wildlife, research, aquatic and zoo animals.
The NHVDL also provides diagnostic services and information to various state agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services, NH Fish and Game Department, and state and local law enforcement agencies.
The lab also participates in the increased surveillance by state and federal agencies of certain animal diseases associated with international trade and bioterrorism.
The services of the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory are made available through the cooperative support of the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, the NH Agricultural Experiment Station and the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food.
The New Hampshire Veterinary Medical Association has been a strong partner in the history and ongoing success of the NHVDL and provides support and advice to the lab via a standing advisory committee of the association.
